The Orrie Humphrey Lee Scholarship

Programs

Mrs. Orrie Humphrey Lee was born on March 18, 1915 in Clay County, Ga. to Joe & Eula Humphrey. She was the fourth of nine children.

At Christmas, each child in the family was only allowed one item. Orrie always chose to get a new book. Even as a child, she was an avid reader and felt she could visit many places through reading.

She completed elementary and high school in Clay County, Georgia, and went on to matriculate at Georgia Normal & Agriculture College and received a teacher's certificate.

She taught elementary school in Early County, Georgia prior to marrying Bobby Howard Lee and starting a family.

Orrie and Bobby's family consisted of eight children. Throughout all the years, she continued to be an avid reader.

Remarkably, at the age of 80, Orrie went back to school and received an Associates degree in Theology. The reading skills Orrie had developed and honed were critical to her success in achieving an associate degree. During her entire adult life, Mrs. Lee has always worked with young people in Sunday school and she has inspired and motivated a multitude of students.

The Orrie Humphrey Lee Scholarship honors Mrs. Lee's love of reading, and continues her legacy by assisting students with the purchase of books to secure their education.
